The Bridge to Nowhere

The Bridge To Nowhere

When leaving the Marriott in Glasgow last Friday morning - as I have done many times before but obviously with my eyes shut - I noticed the bridge that terminates in the hotel car park. You'd get a nasty surprise if you walked off the end of that one.

What had the bridge connected? Or was it always left hanging in mid air above a hotel car park?

The latter actually. It's apparently the Anderston Footbridge, linking a shopping centre across the motorway. However, the shopping centre was never built and the work on the bridge was abandoned.

It looks like the bridge is at last due to be completed! Whilst I would debate the use of the description "Iconic", the bridge is to form part of a cycle / walkway linking to National Route 75 of the National Cycle Network.

The bridge to nowhere no more.

FaceAche privacy issues

Ever since Facebook first produced lists I have been trying to find the time to set them up properly. My life isn't interesting enough to spend ages ensuring that A doesn't see B (I'd probably make an arse of it anyway) but I don't really think that my work colleagues need to see me checking into the gym on my days off.

So, I've finally got round to it and Facebook doesn't make it easy. This is the setting that I want - quite straightforward.

The default is to send everything to "Friends of Friends". Well, no, I'm not doing that! So, sorted. Yes?

Well, not quite.

As soon as I go back into check it:

it's reset to what Facebook would like, not what I would like.

It may be poor software design / implementation but I suspect not!

Private John Comrie Findlay, The Royal Scots, 1899 - 1918

This is the report of my grand uncle's death:

It reads:

On the morning of the 25th April.1918, we were standing side by side firing at the enemy, when Pte Findlay got shot through the left temple Sergeant French who was in command of the platoon certified him as dead. We carried him out of the trench to be out of the way of the traffic. As the firing was very heavy we had no time to get his pay-book or any of his belongings, nor had we time to bury him as we were captured shortly afterwards.
What a waste.

Back to Work

Well, here we are; two days back at work and now a day off.

Work has gone really well but I am jiggered! Haven't been to the gym yet - that's tomorrow morning. It is only getting back to some sort of normality that I can really appreciate the benefits of the surgery - I feel great.

However, when I stood on the scales this morning I was (not very) shocked to find that I was nearly 17 stone - 13 stone is my fighting weight! So, now that I can get to the gym again, the challenge is on.

The challenge is this. By this time next year I will be at my target weight of 13 stone. This should also help with my high blood pressure. I owe it to myself and my new bionics. So, watch this space!

What would life be like if we could see the soul of each person rather than what we wear on the outside?

Instant gratification

I received the box set of Ashes to Ashes for my birthday. Fantastic! I loved the program - almost as much as Life on Mars - and the soundtrack is an integral part of that.

I already had the Series 1 and 3 soundtracks, but 2 was missing. So it's off to Amazon....

I'm now torn between buying the MP3 download and buying the CD version. I still like the CD - having a tangible "thing". Amazon offers both:

I save £3 by buying the CD. I don't get it.

Although maybe I do.

If I spend the £2.99 then I have to wait for 24 hours. By paying double I have it there and then. I hesitated before opting for the CD version.

We can't wait for anything these days!
